Japanese KitKats - golden citrus flavour

$

Hello, Foodies! Today we start our first series in 2015 - KitKat battles! You've been asking me about these "crazy Japanese KitKats" for suuuuch a long time, and...I finally have them! So stay in your comfy chairs and keep reading! :3

Starting with golden citrus flavored KitKat  (柑橘黄金 - kankitsu kogane), its flavor comes from oranges, lemons and fruit called sudachi. That last one is a small, round and green Japanese citrus fruit, too sour to be eaten as a fruit itself (it's used widely in Japan as a flavouring). You can see all fruits on the packaging. (o^▽^o)

This flavour is limited to only few regions in Japan: Chūgoku and Shikoku. Chugoku (also known because of funny name San'in-San'yō - 山陰山陽) is the westernmost region of the biggest Japan island - Honshū. Shikoku is the smallest of the main Japanese islands. You can find Shikoku on the overall "map of KitKats" and Chūgoku is a little bit above that. Amazing, isn't it?

The taste. It's citrus without a doubt. At first you can feel strongly sour flavor with orange tang to it, however sour flavour quickly makes room for sweetness.

If I could compare its taste to something else it would be coated citrus wafers. It tastes a little bit like orange powdered orangeade. However, quality-wise these KitKats are definitely better. Explosion of sweet freshness is what these bars are. And this colour...!

 9 / 10

Above was Wu's final grade but it's not over.
Welcome to The Veti's Zone :D

There exists an incredible variety of Japanese KitKats guys and today we have quite the exotic one. This will be my own opinion and personal rating on the citrus flavoured KitKat so you can compare it with Wu's main grade.

This KitKat's flavour caught my attention because I'm a big lover of sour taste and citrus fruits. After the first bite my mouth was full of sour "freshness of fruit". After that I could feel dainty chocolate. That was one pleasurable experience, and it was awesome!

This flavour is missing in sweets for me, but finally I had a chance to try it. Nestle knows perfectly how to lure me ;). From me Golden Citrus KitKat gets oishii! grade, which is well-deserved 9 out of 10.

Japanese KitKats - beni-imo flavour

Hello, Foodies! Today we're gonna finish our first battle. Opponent for golden citrus flavour will be... beni-imo (紅いも) which means red potato (literally crimson potato). But it's not really red potato flavour. Want to know why?

Well... Name can be a little bit misleading because we don't translate things word by word and we don't write about red pontiac potato here. In Japan there are very popular vegetables called purple potato. They taste similar to regular sweet potato, but have incredibly vivid purple color.

This taste was limited only to Okinawa (and partly Kyūshū) region. What's the reason? Beni-imo is native to the southern Japanese island. You can find this subtropical region on the map below:

What's my opinion about the taste? Well... as you probably know (or you can read hereI hate potatoes. And I hate them not because of taste, but mainly because of farinaceous texture. It's the reason why I don't like azuki beans and potatoes very much. This is not just a potato though. It's a sweet that's potato flavored. In the end its texture was surprisingly okay for me. Just like every KitKat is - melty chocolate with crispy wafers inside.

Taste of sweet potato is totally odd for me. Coating is sweet like white chocolate, but there's a strange aftertaste to it. It was propably this unique purple potato. This aftertaste is hard to define, but it's not horrible at all. But I'm not sure finally...

Overally, beni-imo KitKat was good for me, but slightly too sweet. But I had a chance to try something different and extremely rare in Poland.

 7 / 10

Hello, Veti here and here's another KitKat flavour for you

Today we have a chocolate-coated wafer from Nestle that has a very unusual taste and that is a sweet Japanese potato called beni-imo. I would like to mention that similarly to Wu. I don't like potato taste that much.

So, after tasting this KitKat I can say that beni-imo is... worse than regular Polish potatoes. The mixture of sweet potato and chocolate is totally bland for me or even nauseating. At the beginning the taste of this KitKat is quite OK but after that the quintessence of potato taste slaps us in a face.

Beni-imo KitKat gets yawarakai rate from me, which is just weak 3 out of 10.

So... the winner of  the first KitKat battle is... golden citrus.

Japanese KitKats - hōjicha flavour

Hello Foodies! 今日は土曜日です (kyō wa doyōbi desu = today is Saturday) so it's time to start the second battle!
\( ̄▽ ̄)/

Our first participant this week will be... hōjicha flavour. How is it possible that in Japan sweets aren't just "green tea flavoured" but they distinguish different types of it?!

What is hōjicha? It's Japanese green tea made in a special way. Unlike most Japanese teas that are steamed,  this one is roasted in a porcelain pot. Because of that, leaves of hōjicha aren't green but brown. Of course, it has an impact on the flavour. Hōjicha has a pleasant and delicate, caramel-like flavour. It's slightly similar to rooibos, but it's still green tea, usually made from bancha.

Hōjicha flavoured KitKats are limited to Kyōto (well... on the map below it's placed closer to Fukui but don't be too strict with this "limitation").

What about the taste? It has a soft caramel-like finish and it's not too sweetIt's strongly perceptible that wafers left pleasant tartness after each bite, familiar to tartness after a sip of green tea. For me it tastes similar to something called "maltikeks" (milk chocolate-coated wafers) available in Poland... except this softly tea-like aftertaste.

After few bites both sugar and chocolate kill the amazing experience of hōjicha flavour. But it made me thirsty for green tea so...

 8 / 10

Hello, Veti here and today is the next battle!

In the first corner you have ahōjicha KitKat! So you've got a special kind of green tea. If you wanna know more about it, read Wu's input on the subject above :)

It's taste? It's bittersweet symphony of taste and I love it! You can taste the finest green tea bitterness combined with sweet, gentle chocolate and it's amazing experience without a doubt. If I saw this KitKat somewhere in a Polish shop, I would totally buy it. About an hour after eating I could still taste the tea flavour in my mouth which was very suprising.

For me it gets oishii! grade, 9 out of 10.

Japanese KitKats - amaou strawberry flavour

Hello, Foodies! Tuesday is the day of amaou strawberry flavoured KitKat, the opponent of hōjicha -flavoured one. Will this summer fruit beat the roasted tea?!

As every special Japanese KitKat, this one is the limited edition as well. You can find it in Kyūshū region (on the left side of the map below). Why there? Kyūshū is famous for amaou ichigo - strawberries much bigger than the usual ones! And I goofed you up telling you about "this summer fruit", because Japanese amaou stawberries are available from winter to spring! Strange, isn't it?

Amaou strawberries are known to be less sour than the "normal" ones. Well... I've never tried them, so I can't tell for sure. =(^_^)=

The taste of this KitKat was a big disappointment for me. Smell and taste are very artificial, like a cheap, strawberry flavoured yoghurt. Chocolate is melty and it has intensively sour and sweet taste. It's good, but it's nothing above par. Big minus for me for typical, artificial and not surprising taste at all.

 7 / 10

Hello again in the Veti's Zone

In the first corner last time we had Hojicha KitKat and today in the second corner we have an amaou strawberry KitKat! Battle in my mouth begins.

The taste of this chocolate-coated wafer reminds me of Polish, strawberry-like yogurt Gratka mixed with chocolate. OK, maybe KitKat is more delicate and more "fresh" than Gratka, but it's still similar to it. It has a very nice smell, however there is something missing in that KitKat and I don't know what it is

I'm not enraptured by Amao strawberry product of Nestle, but still, it has a nice taste. From me it gets kokoroyoi grade, 6 out o 10.

So... the winner of the second KitKat battle is... hōjicha.
=(^_^)=

Japanese KitKats - Rum & raisin flavour

Hello, Foodies! Time is passing by very quickly and it's time to start third KitKat battle! Today we will mess around with very unusual, rum and raisin flavour. So... let's try!

As you can see on the packaging, rum and raisin flavour is Tokyo area limited. Single bar contains around 0,06% of alcohol and it's said that it can't be consumed by children. Well... mixing rum with raisins isn't typical for me, but I can't find any "roots" of this flavour. If you try to google a little bit, you'll find only these wafer bars and a few recipes.

What about the taste? After the first bite, raisin flavour punches you brutally in the face. And it's not good, especially if you - same as me - don't like raisins. When you get used to sweet raisins with white chocolate, you find soft aftertaste of rum. But after a while it's killed by overdone sweetness. I can picture it like this: "rum, rum... I almost catched ya... and again these (&#&@($ RAISINS!".

These bars are definitely too sweet for me. I expected "more rum in rum", not luscious white chocolate with dried grapes. Such a disappointment!

The grade is not that bad because of this KitKat's unique flavour and good quality. After all, it tastes precisely like raisins with rum, not like rum candies I tried before which tasted like something chocolate-like with touch of undefined alcohol.

 6 / 10

Hello. Veti here and today is drinking time...!

...or almost drinking time because we have Rum & Raisin Kitkat. And this sweet's taste is delicate, very unusual and sugary with just a hint of alcohol in it. I had a hard time locating the taste of raisins in this Kitkat and I'm glad I didn't find it.

This product of Nestle is very tasty for me. Good word to describe it,  is "melty". Tasty Rum & Raisin Kitkat gets from me yoroshigrade, 7 out of 10.

Japanese KitKats - azuki sando aji flavour

Hello, Foodies! Today we're gonna finish the third battle. Last times we tried flavour of rum and raisins, today it's time for very Japanese flavour - azuki beans. Have you ever tried them?

 A few words about azuki...

Azuki beans are very typical filling for Japanese sweets. If you're searching for very unique, oriental taste, you can find mochi (rice cookies) or taiyaki (fish-shaped cookies) with azuki paste. It's sweet and good as a substitute for unhealthy chocolate. Well, azuki beans are very rich in fiber, they kill our hunger efficiently and satisfy us, gourmets, the Japanese way.

I've never liked azuki beans much because of farinaceous texture, strange taste without pure sweetness, unpleasant aftertaste... Then boom! I tried these azuki KitKats and I decided to give them a chance one more time

Flavour of these KitKats is inspired by azuki toasts served in coffee shops near Nagoya. This KitKat is limited to Tōkai and Hokuriku (somewhere in the middle of Japan).

 Flavour

Big surprise for me. These bars are very tasty, not too sweet and well balanced. You can feel melty, sweet chocolate, then pleasant strangeness which leaves you insatiate and in result you want more and more. I thought azuki beans aren't to my taste, but now I want to give them one more chance. This flavour's taste is indescribable and I like it very much!

 9 / 10

So... the winner of  the third KitKat battle is... azuki jam sandwich.
At least in my opinion... but you can read about it below.
=(^_^)=

It's Veti's Zone again!

Today we've got opponent for Rum & Raisin. Azuki Jam Sandwiches Kitkat is coming!

I wondered how azuki jam mixed with chocolate tastes. Azuki and chocolate have almost similar taste except one thing: azuki is powdery and chocolate is not. After the first bite my mouth was full of bitterness. Its  is difficult to describe, maybe something like cocoa. This Kitkat tastes very strangely in my opinion. Suprisingly long time after trying this product of Nestle, I can still feel its taste, but it was nicer than  before.

For sure I can to quess that in Kitkat is azuki jam, but where is my sandwich there? After all I like this wafer. but it's something missing to be perfect. Maybe it's not sweet enough or I'm not used to taste of azuki beans.

Azuki Jam Sandwiches Kitkat gets from me yoroshirate, 7 out of 10.

This time, in this battle I have a slightly diffrent opinion than Wu. Rum with raisins and azuki jam sandwich flavoured Kitkats get the same grade from me, but in my opinion the first one is a winner this time.

Japanese KitKats - ichimi chili flavour

Hello, Foodies! Sorry for being one day late with the last battle of January. To justify myself I'll tell you that yesterday I was on an incredible concert of Sabaton. If you don't know their music yet, you like heavy metal and you're interested in historical military conflicts, you should totally check them out! Their music is full of energy and members of this band are really cool guys with good sense of humor. I'm really impressed. :)

But coming back to Japanese sweets. Today I have for you chili flavoured KitKat. Are you ready for the hottest participant of our battles? Let's start with fresh energy, then.

Chili flavoured KitKat is limited to Shinshū. You can see where it is on the map below. It's kinda historical name of this region, nowadays it's called Nagano prefecture. Why there? This region is famous for Yawataya Isogoro company which produces chilli spices. You can read a little bit about Yawataya and their products on their English page: click here.

And now things are clear. What's more, look at these packagings below! It's obvious now why we can see this strange yellow paprika on the KitKat foil. It's logo of "ichimi" - kind of spice made by Yawataya from simple ground chili pepper... and it's what this KitKat is made from.

What about the taste? You can feel the power! Very good quality dessert chocolate is mixed with first quality chili from Nagano prefecture. In effect these wafers are not too sweet, with strongly piquant aftertaste.

It's definitely not for everyone. Not for soft food likers, not for children. But if you like piquant food as much as I do, you will be pleased.

What's the most important for me in this sample is its quality. It's definitely not like chili chocolates I got used to in Poland. It's simple and well refined with taking care of the smallest detail.

 9 / 10

Hello, Veti here again! ^^

From Ichimi Kitkat I expected strong chocolate and chilli flavour. I mean, something like polish chilli chocolate by Milka.

After the first bite I really found chilli flavour. This Kitkat is really spicy hot. I couldn't even grasp the chocolate taste in it, it's so damn hot!

I don't know if it's my low tolerance for piquant food or Ichimi Kitkat is that spicy, but this food experience was too strong for me. Kitkat's chili sensation was kinda painfull for me. Maybe if you are spicy food lover more than I am, it'll be pleasure for you to eat this Nestle product.

Please don't kill me, but from me it gets maa, maa grade, 5 out of 10.

Japanese KitKats - strawberry cheesecake flavour

Hello, Foodies! Today it's time for the last KitKat in January! On Saturday, instead of the next review, I'll write a little summary of the first amazing month in 2015 on WunoRei! Yay! =(^_^)=

An opponent for the chili flavoured KitKat will be...a strawberry cheesecake flavoured one! I heard a lot of extremely good opinions about these special wafers. How did they turn out in testing?

This KitKat is a limited edition from Yokohama in central Japan (map below). Maybe it's because of Yokohama strawberry festival? I don't know the real reason. As much as limited to Tokyo "Rum and raisins" KitKat is.

Briefly about the flavour: I feel disappointed. It doesn't taste like a strawberry cheesecake at all. It tastes rather similar to vanilla flavoured pudding with a touch of white chocolate. Even if I tried very hard, I couldn't find strawberries anywhere. What a pity...

The Strawberry Cheesecake flavoured KitKat is too sweet for me, and definitely more milky than "cheesy". A huge amount of sugar and lack of fruity freshness so I give it...

 5 / 10

Here's Veti again!

I like cheesecake very much so I was excited when I'd got this Kitkat. I was looking for a taste similar to a cheesecake I'm used to, maybe with exception for fruit flavour.

I was a little disapointed. It tasted like some delicate, milky cheesecake but without any strawberries, not even the tiniest ones. Chocolate is melty and pleasant, though.

White chocolate and cheesecake is good mixture for me. But I aslo expected some fruit flavour in it. Cheesecake flavour also makes this Kitkat not too sweet for me. This Nestle product is fine, but not as good as it could be in my opinion.

I give Strawberry Chessecake Kitkat yoroshi rate, 7 out of 10.

January 2015 - summary (Japanese KitKats in new year)

Hello, Foodies! Today it's the last day of January, so it's time for our cool summary. So... let's start!

January was full of fresh energy for WunoRei after a long break. We started with a new layout, side sliding menus and regular twice-a-week posting. A new thing was also posting in series and first series of 2015 is KitKat battles which is still going on.

So... it's time to sum up our results up until now!

First flavours to try were Golden Citrus and Beni-imo (sweet purple potato). As you can see above, Golden citrus won with small advantage of 2 points out of 10.

In the second battle we compared Hojicha flavour and Amaou strawberry flavour. Hojicha won with its unique taste and very Japanese appearance.

In the third battle we tried very untypical flavours such as Rum with raisins and Azuki bean sandwich. It was a very interesting experience with very surprising results. Even if I couldn't stand azuki's taste, it won and I gave it one more chance. :3

In the last battle of January flavours were untypical as well: Ichimi chili and Strawberry cheesecake. I was surprised doubly: I didn't expect chili to be so tasty and I expected higher grade for strawberry cake. Well...

Why not chili with the same grade? The reason is simple. Chili isn't for everyone and Veti didn't like it as much as I did. In the case of Golden citrus we both screamed spontaneously with joy... it was truly amazing and I think almost everyone would like it in some way.

Pictures I prepared for you today were made using a drawing tablet I bought recently! Yay! =(^_^)=
I'm not a mangaka or famous worldwide artist, but I had a lot of fun preparing this small summary and extra drawings for you. And what's more I feel it's more personal if I write or draw something for you with all my heart (and shaking hands, ha ha). Thanks for all your support, keep it up and...

P.S. In February we will continue KitKat battles, because I have a lot of weird Japanese flavours left. Then we will say goodbye to KitKats (and winter too) and start something very new. Stay logged on!

Japanese KitKats - shinshu apple flavour

$

0

Hello Foodies! It's time to start February in a fresh and fruity way! :3 Today we will check out KitKat's flavour of shinshu apple. Is it worth ordering from Japan just to try it?

As you can see on the map below, this flavour is (surprisingly, ha ha) limited to Shinshu region. We already tried one flavour from this region - ichimi chili. But what is the connection between chili and apples?

On the page about Japanese food (Makogoro Ippin - click here to check it out!) I found an information that in upland Shinshu region, there are huge temperature differences between morning and evening. Because of this it's possible to grow special kind of apples, which are fully-ripened and sweet like honey. It would be amazing to try them some day, especially because Japanese people extraordinarily take care of their every plantation.

What about the product itself? Well... apples with chocolate always go well together. The sweetness of chocolate and freshness of apples are a very well balanced combination. You can feel from the first bite that this KitKat is perfectly made and has a really high quality. Fruits and chocolate "dance" together until the very end without any domination or mismatch.

I was close to falling in love, but... after all this apple flavour isn't special in any way. Maybe it's because I'm from Poland and I'm used to eating very good apples here, but I expected more from apples described as "sweet like honey".

 8 / 10

Hello, Veti here :)

Apples aren't my favourite fruits but in the summer time I can eat tons of them. From shinshu apple flavoured Kitkat I expected some fruity, kinda "fresh" chocolate.

At the very beginning when I smelled this KitKat, it was an amazing experience, quintessence of a sunny, summer day in an orchard. Then I tried it and it was just fine for me, like good quality milky chocolate with some flavour of the finest apples.

This Kitkat is still very good, a must-try product but in the end, I feel a little disappointed. It's tasty but not as super fresh and fine as I expected. Still, I would like to eat it every summer. :P

From me shinshu apple Kitkat getsyoroshi grade, 7 out of 10.

Japanese KitKats - otona chocolate flavour

$

0

Hello, Foodies! Today we will finish the 5th KitKat battle and the first battle of January with kinda inconspicuous flavour of... chocolate. Is it good enough to beat the shinshu apple?! I can't wait to check it out!

First of all, we can find something interesting on the packaging: logo of YouTube with an invitation to search for Nestle's new campaign. We can do this by searching "ネスレシアター" ("Nesureshiatā"), which means "Nestle theater". Kinda interesting way of advertising, isn't it?

Secondly, it's the first KitKat from "オトナの 甘さ" (otona no amasa = adult's sweetness) series which we can try. Wafers from this series are dedicated to adults, they may contain a little bit of alcohol and are usually less sweet than regular ones. This time we just have less sweet chocolate, it's all.

What's next, this KitKat isn't region-limited at all. Surprising, uh? It's just a chocolate coating with crushed dark chocolate cookie bits inside. Seems kinda dully...

...and it is. Very usual! It's good, but it tastes like thousands other chocolate wafers coated in chocolate. I really tried to find something more... but I couldn't. It's totally not worth ordering from a faraway Japan.

 5 / 10

So... here we have the winner of 5th battle. It's shinshu applewithout a doubt.

Here's Veti again!

Otona milk chocolate Kitkat doesn't seem to be a novelty. It hasn't got any fruit or intresting flavour. From this sweet I was expecting some premium quality.

After I tried it I was very upset. It tastes just normal and I have to repeat what Wu. said. Very usual! It is very similar to hundreds of other chocolate waffers. :( I can't describe the taste of this Kitkat in other way. It doesn't even have a better kind of chocolate or anything.

A good word to describe otona milk chocolate Kitkat is just "mehh". You can try this one, but there are a lot of better flavoured products of Nestle.
That's why I give otona milk chocolate Kitkat heikin rate, 4 out of 10.

Japanese KitKats - otona no amasa - rum flavour

$

Warning! Warning! We're starting a very special battle here! We will introduce you to a very unique KitKats for adults - Feuillantine. Check out this tiny and delicious sample in a "way-around-macro" quality, ha!

A note for photography-lovers: I don't have any macro lenses. All my photos are taken with the cheapest Nikkor 50 1.8 and (not original) adapter rings. What's more, I bought my flash for 15PLN (3,5 EUR). I know, it doesn't work perfectly, but it's kinda good for its price.

The Feuillantine KitKat gets its name from "en feuillantine"which means ultra-thin sheets of pastry in French. Inside the dessert chocolate coating, these sweets contains feuillantine well balanced with cocoa wafers and rum powder.

It is the next KitKat from "Otona no amasa" edition, which means it's dedicated only for adults. It contains small amounts of alcohol and can't be consumed by children.

What about the taste? We only had a small sample to try, so I didn't have a chance to feast my mind on it. After a little nibble (because that's what it takes to eat it all) I can tell you that the flavour is very rich and the chocolate itseld is dessert rather than sweet. Soft aftertaste of liqueur goes well with the dark chocolate. "It would be perfect with a strong, black tea"I thought. Unfortunately, I didn't have one at time.

But, well... the taste is a little bit too typical for me and... too soft. I love dessert chocolates served with tea, but I expected something more from such a grandly advertised titbit.

 7 / 10

Hello, Veti Here ;)

Feuillantine rum Kitkat seemed to be something special and elegant, its uniqueness and exceptional quality attracted my attention from the start.

When I tried it, I definitely felt the taste of premium quality chocolate, but I couldn't find the rum flavour in it. After all it's tasty, not too sweet chocolate-covered wafer.

So I give to this feuillantine Kitkat kokoroyoi grade,6 out of 10.

Japanese KitKats - Valentine's Day Yumegari special!

Hello Foodies! It is Valentine’s Day! Do you know how Japanese people spend it and how sweets come into play on this day? While men give presents to women on White Day in March, on Valentine’s day Japanese women give chocolates to their significant others! As WuNoRei, on this very special occasion, we give to all of you a new chocolaty review of a KitKat. It’s not just any KitKat though. It’s analmond Feuillantine KitKat brought to you byYumegari– a Polish online shop selling products ranging from Japanese comic books and stuffed alpacas to sweets and snacks, also known for selling products at anime conventions.I think it’s time we cut to the chase! :)
Natomiast my - WuNoRei w ten dzień mamy dla Was słodką recenzję kolejnego KitKat-a. (ha!)

Our sweet package arrived in a carefully secured cardboard box in no more than after two days of placing our order on Yumegari’s website. We opened it almost immediately to see a couple of elegant-lookingboxes one being almond Feuillantine KitKat box full of chocolate-coated wafers.
The packaging is well-designed and it looks exceptionally good. The mustard color shown in the photos is more carmel-like when you look at the box for yourself and it's perfectly balanced with classical brown. The opening lid is very practical and convenient.

The inside look of the box matches in style the look of the wafers. The manufacturer took care of every detail! It renders this snack perfect for a tea party with your friends, but it would be good as a gift as well. We don't have to present a person with usual "Merci" or "Rafaello". If we don't want to make our gift trite, this sweet KitKat box will be the perfect one of a kind gift for such an occasion.

The level of precision, fidelity and effort put into making this product is astonishing. Every wafer is wrapped separately and they are all really tiny. Let’s taste it, shall we?
...nasze oczy cieszy dopasowane stylistycznie wnętrze pudełka i osobno pakowane wafelki.

Well, even in this field almond Feuillantine KitKat proves to be very good. High quality chocolate of rich taste compliments light French Feuillantine pastry. The icing on the cake - crunchy almond bits, complete this symphony of flavours.

All of us at WunoRei (look up: "Who is who" in the upper left corner of the page)  tried these wafers and we all enjoyed them.

I  (Wu.) find this KitKat a perfect snack for a casual tea party. It's not too sweet, very stylish and I think it would make my guests smile .

Wafelków z zaciekawieniem spróbowała cała ekipa WuNoRei (patrz: "Who is who" w lewym górnym rogu) i wszystkim smakowało.

Veti, as a almond-addict was a little disappointed with only soft touch of almonds in these wafers, but he enjoyed premium quality of chocolate and good composition of ingredients.
In his own words:
"Feuillantine almond Kitkat tastes like  a chocolate-covered
wafer only a little bit more expensive. It's not too sweet, and it has marvelous chocolate. Unfortunately for big almond lover like me, this Kitkat was a little disappointment. Where are my almonds? I couldn't really sense them."

Cinek fell in love with precise craftmanship, excellent quality and good taste.
In his own words:

"What I thought first when I looked inside the box was that these bars look cute. What's less cute is their size. For me they are very small and I had problems opening them without actually riping its black and orange wrapping. Said color scheme isn't of my likings either as I prefer black-yellow, black-red combination, but it matches the color of almonds and the color of Feuillantine pastry. The fact that these bars are so small makes me think they look like german "Merci" chocolates and those taste the same for me no matter which flavor I take out of the box. Thankfully almond Feuillantine KitKat is crunchy, has a tasty wafer, good quality chocolate and its smell is captivating. "KitKat" engraved in the chocolate is a great detail and covered with brand's logo black padding inside the box gives it red-carpet-like feeling meaning that it compliments the actual content of the box very well."

Japanese KitKats - otona no amasa - amaou strawberry flavour

Hello, Foodies! Sorry I made you wait for a new sweet review so long, but I was so stressed out with the university stuff, I just didn't want to share my bad mood with you. Today though, I solemnly declare, I'm ready for the next term with passed exams and prepared schedule. And I chilled out totally, so we can talk about otona no amasa - amaou strawberry flavoured KitKat.

Oh, we already tried amaou strawberry KitKat, didn't we? But today it's not the same one. What's the difference - you will ask. Well, today we will try the KitKat from otona no amasa edition. As I wrote in past notes, it's just less sweet that the regular KitKats, dedicated for adults.

What's more, strawberry KitKats for adults had at least two different editions. Luckily I tried the first one (and better in my opinion) - click here to check it out. As you can see, strawberry is very popular even in Japan and there are so many KitKat editions you can get lost with them.

So... let's try this strawberry wafer. It's sour and too sweet for me. Kinda like nauseatingly sweet pudding with sour strawberry sauce on it. What's amazing is that you can find dried strawberry pieces inside. They are shown even on the photo above, excellent!

However, tt has more weak points than it has the strong ones. Wafer is vapid in the strange way and the taste is higly artificial after all. It's not bad but it's not the best either, so the final grade is also somewhere in the middle.

Here's Veti again!

Otona strawberry Kitkat intriqued me with appetzing smell and look.

After I tried it I tasted very intensive, pleasant strawberry flavour. I barely recognized milk chocolate in this Kitkat. Good job Nestle! This chocolate covered waffer tastes nice, like real, fresh fruits.

For me this Kitkat is better than amao Kitkat I tried before. Pieces of fruits in it will probably impress all strawberry lovers.
From me this product of Nestle gets yoroshigrade, 7 out of 10.

Japanese Kitkats - otona no amasa - matcha flavour

Hello, Foodies. Today we will try the last KitKat from "otona no amasa" edition - matcha flavour. What about chocolate wafers with very expensive, Japanese high quality powdered green tea? Check it out :)

Matcha is one of my favourite Japanese flavours. It has not too soft, a little bit tart and highly specific taste. You definitely have to try it to understand, and if you like green tea, you will like it for sure. What's more, matcha is easy to use in other ways: you can make matcha latte with milk, add it to cake, ice-cream, smoothie etc. You can add tea-like flavour to almost everything and make it vividly green without artificial pigments, yay!

So, how does the otona no amasa matcha KitKat stack up? Oh.my.god. Soft sweetness, perfect smooth texture, intense aftertaste. Milky chocolate with matcha sounds like perfection to me... and it is (well... almost).

By the way, making sweets with matcha must be a child's play... just don't destroy the perfection. <3

We have a winner of  the7th battle. It's unanimously otona matcha!

Hello, Veti here ;)

Matcha flavoured Kitkat has a deep, green tea colour. I'm not such a great tea lover like Wu. is but it's definitely perfect flavour for me.

When you open this Kitkat you can feel the smell is good. I tried the waffer and I felt intense, bitter tea mixed with chocolate flavour. The Kitkat was melty and soft inside. Tasting it was just very special experience for me. Unfortunately taste of matcha disapered too fast for me.

Otona no amasa matcha flavoured Kitkat has extraordinary taste just as I expected. That's why I give it umai! grade, 8 out of 10.

Hello, Foodies! Today I have for you a short review of vanilla ice cream flavoured KitKat. I love vanilla ice-cream but what about these wafers?! Can't wait to check them out!

As you can see on the photos above, this edition of KitKat has a very cute wrapping. I've lost my mind for this incredibly kawaii polar bear on the left, yay!

Vanilla ice cream flavoured KitKats were being sold during the summer time in Japan. Producer suggested to freeze it before eating to extract its ice-cream-like feeling.

What about the taste? NO THANK YOU. It's definitely too vapid for me, too sweet and milky in artificial way. Maybe it's because we didn't freeze it, but it doesn't change a lot for me, because... I hate frozen chocolate. I finished a single bar with sweat on my forehead. I was really tired, not relaxed nor pleased as I expected myself to be. No, no, no.

Japanese KitKats - wasabi flavour

Hello, Foodies! Today we will finish 8th KitKat battle. We're slowly approaching the end of this serie. Today we will try wasabi flavour of KitKat. Can you imagine sweet wafer with wasabi touch?!

Wasabi KitKat is limited to Shizuoka as you can see on the map below. I think it's because Shizuoka is famous as a birthplace of wasabi (Japanese horseradish) which is now extremely popular seasoning, not only in Japan.

People love to buy souvenirs when they go somewhere for a trip. So why not to buy extremely rare flavoured wafers instead of trashy figurines? Nestle made a good job with this Shizuoka limited KitKat edition.

We were a little bit afraid of this flavour. We love wasabi but in its "natural" form ex. green spot next to the piece of sushi. Wasabi chocolate wafers sound kinda strange for us.

And yeah, it was kind of "WTF" for me. I'm not even sure it was positive or negative, because I've never thought about preparing wasabi... the sweet way - and I'm surprised it's really possible! These wafers are very sweet with soft wasabi aftertaste. Not vapid and not too strong.

If you're searching for untypical flavour it's definitely must-try for you. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I'd rather prefer just very hot wasabi paste than crazy sweet and hot variations. ;)

 5 / 10

And with this kinda low grade we finished the weakest battle in the history of KitKats on WunoRei. Wasabi flavour is the winner, but I'm not sure it's a big distinction this time. ^^

Japanese KitKat - matcha flavour

Hello crazy KitKat addicts! =(^_^)= Today we're going to start the last KitKat battle on WunoRei (well... at least for some time). Our special guest today will be matcha flavoured KitKat, but this time not "otona no amasa" edition. Oh, okay, wait... but is it really such a big difference?

This version of matcha flavoured KitKat is limited to Kyoto prefecture, same as Hojicha flavoured wafers we tried some time ago. We can explain it very simply: you can buy in Kyoto very wide variety of Japanese teas as hojicha, gyokuro, matcha etc... well, it's my version of explanation so don't take it very serious. ^^' I'm sure it's something more behind this story.

What about taste? Is it very different from the "otona no amasa" KitKat? Yeah, it is. It's a little sweeter and has better texture than "for adults" version.

As I wrote here, it would be a pity to destroy the matcha perfection. But luckily it's softly decorated, not overwhelmed by other flavours. Even better than the previous version I tried.

Japanese KitKat - custard pudding flavour

Hello, Foodies! Today we will finish the last KitKat battle. I want you to know that I was waiting all this time to try this KitKat, because it's kind of special one. You can bake it before eating and of course we tried it this way! Check out, how it turned out!

I was very surprised with idea of "baked chocolate wafers" and... of course I had to try them. It's very simple to make them: just bake in oven or small, cheap "grill-toaster" as we did (we don't have an oven in our student's flat so we need to muddle through it somehow ^^). But look! Baked wafer looks awesome!

...and it tastes awesome too! It's very sweet, caramel like and crunchy. Baking sweets is very cool idea for me. It tastes like oat cookies made with honey. It's a little bit too sweet for me (one wafer is totally enough) but it's so untypical and awesome in texture it receives from me:

 9 / 10

What's the result of this battle? Well, for the first (and the last) time we have a tiehere. Matcha and custard pudding are both awesome. Maybe matcha is more in my taste, but I can't skip the awesome idea of preparing the second one because of that uniqueness of texture and overall feeling. So we have a tie here. Both matcha and custard pudding received extremely good grades and I would reccomend it to you with clear mind.

Now it's time to start something new...
